BK21 Project Vision and Objectives

Vision To educate convergent/multifaceted English language and literature students based on ‘Future Humanities’ with the ability to critically reflect and creatively respond to the social changes and challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This BK21 Project has identified ‘21st century skills’ and ‘literacies’ cited by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as core competences that need to be strengthened by humanities in the future. The BK21 Project will strive for the following future humanities education ideals as a means of cultivating these core competences.

  • 'Participative Education' that extends the classical perspective to actively respond to the challenges of future society
  • 'Convergence Education' in accordance with the Fourth Industrial Revolution focused on convergence and collaboration between heterogeneous industries
  • 'Reflective Education' that gives ethical direction to the technological revolution dominated by the logic of efficiency
  • 'Problem-solving Education' to provide humanities-based knowledge that is important for solving pending issues in society
  • 'Creative Communication Education' that operates a consumer-centered educational community in education and research

The following vision has been established by the BK21 Project to achieve the above-mentioned educational ideals.

Based on a thorough review and benchmarking of the education and research program in the world’s leading universities, the BK21 Project has selected 3 core education areas comparative humanities, science humanities, data humanities, from which the 3 major education and research objectives were established.
